Jan: Eagle Days

Eagle Days January 24th

The day started at Alton, IL after a longish drive.  Here we saw a couple of dozen Eagles

These two birds - upper immature without white head; lower mature - were the closest we saw.

After a drive up the Illinois side of the Mississippi proved disappointing, we headed up to Ted Shanks Conservation Area near Hannibal.  We saw a dozen Eagles as we crossed the river at Louisiana, but none at the CA. So we headed back downstream to Clarksville where abundant Eagles were feeding and soaring.  Newcomer Chaco enjoyed the trip.

We estimate that overall we probably saw about 60 of the majestic beasts.
