Richard Young hosted and guided the
group along the 6 mile Apple Creek Horse Trail where these limestone
ledges were dissected by the creek. |
|
Despite clambering over
the ledges, no-one even fell and broke an arm! |

|
|

|
This strangely sculpted snag
attracted some interest. What do you think? Large arboreal beaver, deer,
or insects attacking a fallen stump. Amazingly tall Cheryl Brown models
the stump for size perspective. |
|
Commonly, the main evidence of
past human habitation comprise healthy stands of daffodils left behind
after dwellings have been long deserted |

|

|
Behold! A host of golden Sierrans! |
|
Attractive limestone ledges and crevices through
which the creek has worn a path were frequent caused for pauses and
enjoyment on the hike. |

Earth Day at Southeast Missouri State University
was scheduled initially for April 20th, but inclement weather
caused it to be postponed until May 4th. Our table and
staff looked stunning |
|
From either side! |

|
|

|
And when an occasional gust of wind blew, the
Earth Day flag looked awesome.
Thanks to BobP, Brian, Frank, Alan, BobZ, Kiva and Pepper for staffing
the table. |
|
The May 11th float
trip was cancelled; because of flooding the canoe weren't available and
the rivers were even closed. So we took a hastily planned
substitute hike at Trail of Tears State park. The group posed before
parting ways. |
 |
|
 |
Backwater flooding from the
Missisippi up Indian Creek had flooded the trail at the north end of the
park - causing the group to beat a detour through the woods to the
bluffs along the river. |
|
The Hawn State Park camp-out and
hike was moved forward to May 31st /June 1st. A
small group camped out Friday night, and hikes Saturday. Over the corner
of the Journet/Conway tent, outing leader Bob Zeller is seen in the
distance with his tent. |

Alisha Gammon wore a
mock oil drum to emphasize the oil savings associated with hybrid
vehicles during the Hybrid Car Rally on November 21st on the
campus of Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau. Two
Toyota Priuses (Prii?) are in the background. |

The Seasonal Solstice Social was held on December
13th (A Friday no less!) at the home of Brian and Eve Alworth |

If you blow up the image of Brian and Eve, you can
see what brand of socks Brian wears. No other secrets visible! |
