Get Moving Kansas City!
For The Planet For Our Future

On Saturday, September 24th, ordinary people around the world will get moving toward a climate-safe, clean energy world by taking part in Moving Planet. Here in KC, we'll gather at 10:30 a.m. in front of Union Station, and then begin walking and biking to Downtown Kansas City, Missouri at 11 a.m. (if you're unable to walk or bike with us, you're welcome to meet us at City Hall at 12th & Oak about 11:45 a.m.). When we get there, we'll petition the City to implement policies that dedicate funding to improve conditions for walking and biking in KC and make our streets friendly to everyone, not just drivers. Then we'll head south to the Crossroads to celebrate the day. Please join us as we build a movement strong enough to get KC and the rest of the world moving fossil fuel-free!

You're welcome to trick out your bike and yourself if you like. Go here for some ideas.

IMPORTANT: Please RSVP for the event and the after party below...

Here is our proposal to the
City of Kansas City, MO
dedicate 1% for biking in the transportation infrastructure budget* (see page B-33...34)
dedicate 2% for walking in the transportation infrastructure budget* (see page B-35...36)
implement at least 25 miles of new bike lanes per year
Implement the City's "Livable Streets" policy* (see page B-30...31)

* The City Council adopted these funding recommendations in 7/2008 as part of KCMO's Climate Protection Plan, but that plan was only passed by resolution. Resolutions express the City's desire to do things but do not carry the legal force of a City Ordinance.
