SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES Claire McCaskill
Conservation Group Praises Work to Protect Missouri’s Environment

Columbia, MO: The Missouri Chapter of the Sierra Club today proudly announces its endorsement of Claire McCaskill for US Senate in the 2006 mid-term election.

“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Claire McCaskill for election,” said Claus Wawrzinek, Missouri Chapter Political Chair. “We are confident that she will do an excellent job to protect our water, air, and our national heritage, for our families and for our future.”

We believe that Claire McCaskill has a firm understanding of environmental issues. When she served as State Representative, she was able to strengthen environmental laws. She voted in favor of air emission testing in St. Louis, increased funding for water pollution control measures, and supported laws to reign in hazardous waste polluters. When she held the office of Jackson County prosecutor she instituted policies to crack down on environmental crimes.

Our air, our water, our very planet are threatened by the loosening of laws that protect our communities.

As a former prosecutor we believe Claire will work to strengthen and enforce the laws that ensure the air we breathe is clean and the water we drink is safe.

“We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Claire McCaskill is elected as Senator,” concluded Keet Kopecky, Chair of the Missouri Chapter. “Many Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf. We look forward to a victory party for the environment on election night and to many more years of McCaskill fighting for the environment as a Senator.”

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to McCaskill’s campaign.
