Details - 19th Annual Ozark Chapter Campout and Reunion

Fact Sheet & Itinerary
Colburn Group Camp at Mark Twain State Park
October 7-9, 2005
Sign-up

Hello campers!

The campout is at Mark Twain State Park near the village of Florida in Monroe County, MO. You may check into Colburn group camp after 5:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 7. Sign in at the Dining Lodge when you arrive, to find out where your cabin is. Try to arrive by 10:30 pm, so that someone will still be awake to assist you.

If you can arrive between 3:30 and 5:00 pm to help put up directional signs and get cabins and bathrooms ready, please call Roy Hengerson at 573-635-8066 or the Sierra Club’s EMG office at 314-644-0890. If you are able to help with the Children’s Corner or Silent Auction, have special dietary suggestions, or can provide alternative indoor activities in case of rain, feel free to contact the EMG office or the Ozark Chapter website to find out whom to contact.

Sleeping arrangements
This is an indoor campout: bunk beds and mattresses are provided. Please bring your own sheets and blankets or sleeping bags and pillows. The cabins are not heated. Each cabin sleeps 17 people, with 4 double bunks in each side room and one bed in the middle room. This means that most families would share a cabin, and friends can stay together in the same cabin. If possible, let the EMG office know by email or phone if you would like to share a cabin with someone in particular. Showers and restroom facilities are located in a separate building near the cabins.

Children
Children are welcome. Parents are expected to supervise them, as baby-sitting services are not provided. Activities will be planned for children of grade-school age in a corner of the dining hall and will be supervised by a teen or adult. But children are also welcome on all hikes along with their parents.

Share the Work
Like any large family, everyone will be asked to lend a hand. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the Dining Lodge so you can volunteer to help with specific meals, wash dishes, sweep, etc. On Sunday, campers will be responsible for making sure the cabins, dining lodge, showers, restrooms, and campgrounds are litter free before leaving. If everyone pitches in, the work will be easy and fun!

Rain
Scheduled hikes will go on, rain or shine for the most part. Films, slide programs, or conservation roundtables, will be available in case rain makes hikes unappealing.

Meals
Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch will be provided. A variety of good food with vegetarian choices has been planned. Bring your own between-meal snacks if desired and any special drinks, like soda. Please note that alcohol has been prohibited in Missouri State Park group campgrounds since 1995. Milk, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and juice will be available at meal times. Those on restricted diets will need to provide their own special foods.
